This Beautiful Hidden Secret in Belgium is a must-visit if you are exploring with a camper. It has multiple hiking trails available or you can climb around in the adventure forest. Lac de la Gileppe is a reservoir to produce hydroelectric power.
What to do around the Lake?
Lac de la Gileppe is a hidden secret in Belgium. It is a beautiful place where you can do multiple different things. A big parking lot is available next to the adventure forest, but campers are forbidden in this area. Read the camper information underneath to find out about the sleeping opportunities. In the area there are multiple hikes and biking trails from easy to difficult.
Two of the available trails are:
- Grand tour du Lac, 14km and 320 elevation gain; This path follows the lake and can be done by foot or bike. When there is no wind, the lake will give you perfect reflections. It is an easy, but long walk. Luckily, it has multiple places to sit down and have a drink and snack. At least half of this path is on asphalt road, which was disappointing for a 4 hours walk. Watch out for the little flies/mosquitos when sitting down around the lake. It is a lovely walk around the lake, but make sure to sit down and enjoy the views from time to time.
- Post’s man trail, 16.3 km and 392 elevation gain; This hike leads more into the woods around the lake. You will walk through different types of forest and pass by an old mining area. There are still elements left of the mining, an old mine cart can be found next to the track. Do not forget to look at the ground, because there are lots of beetles roaming around. This hike is more advanced than the first one, but it gives you spectacular views of the other side of the dam.

Sleeping in your camper at Lac de la Gileppe
Lac de la Gileppe is a beautiful place to visit, also with your camper. There are only four official camper spots available, If you manage to get a spot, it is an amazing place to be. There are no water or dumping facilities available, so make sure to do that before heading towards the lake. But there is free electricity available for the four spots, it is next to the first spot.
