The town was the site of the Battle of Rocroi in 1643, a decisive French victory during the Thirty Years\u2019 War. Today, the geometric fortifications remain intact, giving visitors a rare chance to see such a complete example of this style of defense.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"inside-the-walls\">Inside the Walls<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Within the fortress walls, cobblestone streets, traditional stone houses, and a central square create a charming scene. Soon the route enters the Ardennes countryside, where shady forest tracks in the Vall\u00e9e de Mis\u00e8re and along the Mur\u00e9e provide welcome relief on warm days.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"along-the-way\">Along the Way<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>On the trail, hikers pass landmarks such as the ruins of an old monastery. Moss covered walls and wooden beams reveal centuries of history. The hike is well marked and not too difficult. It offers varied landscapes, making it rewarding for both history fans and nature lovers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This route captures the essence of the Ardennes: cultural heritage, tranquil forests, and the joy of discovering a place at walking pace. For camper travelers, it is an ideal day trip before returning for a relaxed evening in town.
