Skuleskogen National park has a lot to offer. In this beautiful nature park of Sweden, you will find Slåttdalsskrevan.
Popular Slåttdalsskrevan in Skuleskogen national park
The Slåttdalsskrevan is a gap in the Slåttberget. It is 30 m high, 200 m long and 7 m wide. The sea formed the gap in the mountain. It eroded the rocks in this area, but the granite rocks around it stayed in place. The Slåttberget is the highest point in Skuleskogen national park. Both the Slåttdalsskrevan and the top of the Slåttberget are beautiful to see, but they are in the middle of the Skuleskogen national park. Which means it can be difficult to come here, read further about the hikes and different entrances.
!! Currently, the hike through the Slåttdalsskrevan is closed due to risk of falling stones. There is an alternative route available. Check for more information on the national park website. !!

Different entrances and hikes in Skuleskogen National park
There are three different entrance points in the Skuleskogen national park. The south entrance, west entrance and the north entrance.
West entrance
The West entrance is the most accessible from the road, but it is the longest walk towards the highlights mentioned above. It will take 6 km to reach the Slåttdalsskrevan from this entrance. There is also no round trip possible, so you will have to walk the same 6 km back again, which makes it 12 km long to walk towards and back. It is a perfect entrance when you want to have a little walk or if you walk with a stroller for a small impression of the national park. There is a viewpoint nearby the entrance to take in the views of the national park.
North entrance
The North entrance is closer to the highlights with a 4.5 km walk and a loop is possible as well. This can still be a long walk for children, due to the incline and rocky terrain, which needs full attention during the hike.
South Entrance
The South entrance is the most popular to go towards the highlight. It is only a 3 km walk to reach it, which makes it a 6 km hike to go and back. This entrance is also perfect if you want to walk a little further and make a round trip in the national park. We did a 12 km hike which took us 4-5h to complete from this entrance. You can find the hike here. The south entrance track starts with a path levelled by wooden planks and that slowly inclines. When you almost reach Slåttdalsskrevan, the path climbs up on an uneven terrain. The walk towards the highlights can be done by children as well, but it can be very rocky and uneven on some points of the track.
I would suggest taking the South entrance and the shortest route with children. All entrances are suitable for campers, and you are allowed to stay for the night as well on the parking lot. You can find more hikes in the Skuleskogen national park here and see the paths that go through the national park.

Other thing to see in Skuleskogen national park
- Lake; Close to the Slåttdalsskrevan on the way towards the north entrance, you will find lake Tärnättvattnen. This is a beautiful lake to jump in if you have your swimwear with you. You will also find a dry toilet, and you are able to camp here during the night.
- Cave; At the lake mentioned above, you can choose a path towards the cave. You don’t need to take a flashlight or caving gear to explore, but it is still impressive to see the cave.
- Beach; The path next to the sea will give you amazing views, but also some lovely beaches. At the beach, you can relax or take a dip in the water, but be prepared for mosquitos and horseflies.
- Viewpoint at the West entrance; There is a viewpoint available on an easy walkable path at the west entrance of the park. You will have views over the beautiful trees in Skuleskogen National Park.
