Spicy hummus without tahini
Easy Vegan and Cheap spread
This recipe for spicy hummus without tahini is perfect as a vegan spread. We love to eat hummus, but in some countries it can be hard to find a good one, so I decided to create my own recipe. This is a simplified recipe if you compare it to others that you can find on the internet. The ingredients are easy to find in stores and for a low price. We love to eat this hummus with our Knäckebröd in Scandinavia, but you can also use this on a sandwich or dip your veggies in it.
Spicy Hummus without Tahini
You might be confused why I don’t use tahini in this recipe. First, we are not a fan of the bitterness of tahini. Secondly, it is hard to find in the supermarkets along the road and usually expensive. If you want tahini in your hummus, you could try to add it to this recipe. If you want an easy, quick and cheap hummus recipe then this is it. We eat hummus almost every day during lunch or snacks, and therefore this simple, tasty and cheap recipe is perfect for our lifestyle.

Hummus Variations
We love a good spicy hummus, but you can also variate with this recipe to create another type of hummus. I have some tips for you, if you would like to change the recipe.
- Sun dried Tomato Hummus; One of our other favorite hummus recipes is sun dried tomato hummus. Instead of the Sambal Oelek, add in 5 sundried tomatoes. Also add in 1/4 tsp of dried basil.
- Basic hummus; Skip the Sambal Oelek and the paprika powder. This will give you a basic recipe for hummus. You can use this variation to create your own idea for a hummus.
- Grilled Paprika; Replace the Sambal with 50gr of grilled paprika. This will give you a tasty hummus alternative.
- Extra spicy hummus; Use this recipe and add in 1/4 tsp of chili powder to make it more spicy.
With these ideas, you will be able to create a hummus you love. It is so easy to create, try it out.

Spicy hummus without Tahini, Simplified and perfect for traveling
Ingredients
- 1 can Chickpeas 230gr drained weight
- 2 tbsp Sambal Oelek
- 1 tbsp Olive oil
- 2 tbsp Water
- 1/2 tsp Lemon Juice
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1/4 tsp Cumin
- 1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/4 tsp Paprika Powder
Instructions
- Drain and rinse the chickpeas.
- Add all ingredients together in a food processor. I use a small one which works perfect. If you don’t have one, you can use a fork and smash the chickpeas by hand. This will take some extra time, and the hummus will be less smooth. I mix it for 1 min in my food processor, and then it is perfect. Store the hummus in the fridge in an airtight container.
