The Lyngenfjord is one of the most beautiful areas in Norway in my opinion. It has amazing hiking opportunities and the scenery is gorgeous. I will share everything you need to know before visiting the Lyngen Alps in Norway.
How to get to the Lyngenfjord
There are multiple ways to enter and leave the Lyngenfjord. The first one is driving from the south from Oteren towards Lyngseidet. This route will pass the Steindalsbreen hike and the amazing rest location I will mention in this blog later. I highly recommend driving this route to enter or leave the fjord.
Another option is to take the ferry directly onto the fjord. There are two ferry options available. The first one is the closest to the big city, Tromsรธ, take the ferry from Breidvik towards Svensby. Breidvik is located on a 50minutes drive away from Tromsรธ. This ferry does not go frequently, so make sure to check the departure times. This boat ride takes approximately 20 minutes. The second ferry will depart from Olderdalen towards Lyngseidet to enter the fjord. This ride will take 45 minutes, while you enjoy the amazing views. Here as well, make sure to check the departure times. It could be that ferries are canceled or delayed with bad weather.
To drive towards the Blรฅvatnet hike or even further north on the fjord, there is only one road available that you have to drive back and forth. But the hike is definitely worth the drive. Read further for more information about the places along the road trip.

Road trip through the Lyngen Alps
This road trip will include amazing places along the Lyngenfjord that are worth the drive. There are a lot of hikes that are possible in this area and also beautiful places to stay with your camper. I will share our trip along the Lyngenfjord which include two stunning hikes and an amazing location at the beach.
Steindalsbreen hike, highlight on the Lyngenfjord
This is one of my favorite hikes in Norway. It will take approximately 5 hours, including a long break at the glacier. You will walk through the beautiful forest along the river and arrive at a hut halfway the hike. This is an amazing moment to enjoy some refreshments and afterwards you will closely follow the river. After that, you will end up in an open valley and begin your walk directly towards the glacier.
The scenery is amazing, and it will blow you away. You will feel how big nature can be and that we as humans are only a small part of the world. Your worries that you might have that day will immediately disappear and feel like small problems after you see how much the glacier shrunk these years. It is amazing to see the glacier from this close, but also confronting to read the signs of where the glacier was a couple of years ago..
The parking of this hike is free of charge and accessible with a camper. It is accepted to stay overnight after or before your hike.

Amazing rest location on the Lyngenfjord with beach
This is an amazing spot where you can relax and even stay for the night. The route towards this location is a little bit rough, but definitely worth the views. You can walk up the little hill to get an even better view, or decide to go down towards the beach for a refreshing swim. The water is crystal clear in the bay and the sandy beach is perfect for a relaxing day after the Steindalsbreen hike.

Blรฅvatnet, most popular hike of the Lyngen alps
This is one of the most popular hikes in the Lyngen Alps and recommended by Lonely Planet. You will walk towards a gorgeous blue lake on a medium intensive path in less than 2 hours. The path leads you over rocks for more than 1 hour. It is therefore uneven and easier to walk with good hiking shoes, otherwise you might sprain your ankle. It is doable for children, since there are no steep drop-offs on the way. You will have to walk the same path back towards the parking.
The parking place of this hike costs 254NOK a day and can be paid by using the EasyPark application on your phone.
