Hiking options at Skuleberget hike
There are a couple of hiking options available at the Skulebergets nature reserve. You can decide which path you want to take to the top and back down. We took the Grottstigen to the top and went down with the Ödra Bergsstigen trail. This is an overview of all the hikes at the reserve, I will shortly address them all:
Södra Bergsstigen
This is the most common hike in the area. The path is less steep and more accessible due to the good path. The hike is 2.5 km until you reach the top. Make sure to bring a hat, on a sunny day, because it has less cover for the sun.
Östra Bergsstigen
Secondly, the eastern path leads you through the forest. While stepping over the tree roots, the beautifull path leads you to the top in 2.5 km. In combination with the Södra hike, it will give you a perfect day of exploring the Skuleberget hike area.
Grottstigen
The more advanced option is the hike to the cave. This hike will take you right to the top of the mountain in just 1 km. This means the path will be very steep for the entire hike. In the beginning, you will have to climb rocks to make your way to the cave. The cave is a small detour that is worth visiting. It is a small hole in the mountain, but on the information sign you will find the history about this cave.
After the cave, the path varies between stairs and rocks. The stairs can be tricky, and you have to be careful, but it is a great way to make it to the top. It is highly advised NOT to take this path down, there are signs that tell you that it is not safe to go down this way. Also at the start of the hike, it says it is NOT suitable for dogs, due to how the stairs are made. If you want to take this route, take it on your way to the top. It is suitable for children, but you have to be on high alert, because the steps can be difficult for children.
Kalottstigen
This is a small path on top of the Skuleberget, where you can watch the beautiful views of the area.

What more to do at Skuleberget hike
You can hike to the top of the Skuleberget, but there are more things to do here:
- Restaurant at the top; At the end of the Skuleberget hike, there is a restaurant with panoramic views. You can relax here and get a drink or something to eat for lunch or Fika.
- Information center; This is located next to the start of the grottstigen. You can find tons of information here about the world heritage area. There are multiple displays available with information about each part of the Höga Kusten area. I highly recommend taking a look inside and learn more about the history of the nature. The information is in both Swedish and English.
- Climbing routes; You can not only walk to the top of the mountain, but it is also possible to climb up the mountain. There are multiple viaFerrata routes available. You can find more information about that here.
- Cable car; If you are short on time, with young children or not able to walk up/ down the hill, then this is a perfect solution. This cable car can take you to/from the top of the mountain. The journey will take 10-20min and will give you amazing views. You can rest on top of the mountain or do the Kalottstigen walk on top. There is also a small path that is wheelchair friendly on top of the mountain. You can find the prices for the cable car here.
